So, once I enter the UK on this fresh, new, lovely spousal visa....what do I have to do?

I assume you will be with your spouse...  you have to ask?

Yes...first thing first, enjoy your spouse!

After that...sign up at the local surgery and get your NHS card and also apply for your NIN if you're planning on working (national insurance number...like social security number.)

When are you arriving? Have a safe and happy move!

I just wanted to say congrats on getting your visa! I'm also planning on moving to UK on a spousal visa after my fiance and I get married this summer. I went back and read a couple of your last posts and it made me feel much better that you had such an easy time at the Embassy in NYC - That's where I'll be going and I keep getting myself worried for no real reason!

Congrats again and have fun!

might be too far in advance... but if you want/need to drive i'd start the process of getting provisional licence, taking a few lessons, etc.  that process can take 4-6 months.  and a big ditto on register at local surgery.

As far as driving I would check with either the state you came from or the british dept of transportation whatever its called...
I cant remember which one it was but one of them said if you hold a valid license here you can use it for a year over there. I realize that the idea of driving there can be scary, and some people dont know how to drive a stick, but its really not bad at all...although I hate roundabouts and dont wanna drive alone yet :P

I know my license is good for one year; I've already had driving lessons and lots of experience driving (when I first moved in with my then-boyfriend he bought me a Vauxhall Omega so i could get around).  I'm a little nervous about getting a new license because my eyesight is terrible and even though I've just had my eyes checked this past week, I'm not sure I can pass a vision test.   :-\\\\

gwen - don't stress about the driving.  you can do it.  do you wear glasses or contacts?

when i got my UK licence 18 months ago, the only vision test i had was at the beginning of the practical.  they had me read the licence plate of a car across from me.  i wasn't too far away and it was pretty easy.  if you can do that with your glasses/contacts on you should be fine.
