I attended Stirling University and if you're asking about campus housing, where you live sort of depends on what type of course you're taking -- are you an undergrad or a postgrad?  As a postgrad, I lived in Alangrange, which was pretty nice -- a big old house up on a hill behind the uni, technically in Bridge of Allan.  That accommodation was nice, as you pretty much get your own room, have access to a kitchen/fridge/laundry on premises, some parking, and heating/electricity is included.  Also, campus is only 10 minutes' walk away or so, it's close to public transportation and it is in a very scenic area.

There is also John Forty's Court, which is mostly undergrads, but some postgrads, as well as Lyon Crescent, where you would share a smaller house with a few other students, though electricity is not included and you would need to purchase cards for that.  The area near Lyon Crescent is ok, but not as great, as if I recall correctly, there is a ladies' detention center nearby.

Your other option would be to rent a flat in the town center or nearby Bridge of Allan, although that could be quite pricey.  Perhaps you could check the bulletin boards on campus, though, and see if other students are seeking a flatmate -- that would certainly help you cut costs.

Your options really depend on what your circumstances are.   :)

Thanks, Bird, for the reply.  I will be an undergrad, but will require my own flat, mainly because of my two cats.  When you say pricey, how much are you talking about?  What about the Riveside area, is that oK?
How is  the public transport system in Stirling?  I'm not planning on having a car straightaway, so I will have to rely on the bus.  And what aboout shopping, food and otherwise?  Where are the freshmarkets and the  tescos?
Thanks in advance for your reply

I think you can expect to pay between 400-500 GBP montly for a small flat.  I think the Riverside area is fine, and there is a Tesco and a Sainsbury's near there.  I believe it's on Wallace Street -- check it out on Tesco.com, and plug in Postcode FK8 1NP.

The public transportation system is very good, lots of First buses to and from the town centre, so you should have no problem.  The Thistles is the main shopping centre, and they have every shop you could possibly need, for clothing, household items, electronics, whatever.  There's an Argos adjacent to it as well, and they sell lots of common household items at reasonable prices.  During the warmer months, there is sometimes a farmers' market in the town centre, as well, where you can buy fresh meats and vegetables.

As far as eating out goes, there are lots of decent restaurants in the town centre.  It's best to just try different places and see what you like best, as everyone's tastes are different.
