Traveling in Britain - Best places for nature photography?
« on: April 05, 2006, 12:53:48 AM »
I'm not sure if this belongs more here or in Chit Chat, but here goes anyway!

So...just about seven weeks until my trip and one of the integral parts of it will be some nature photography excursions (whether or not my host has the patience for it...he owes me big time anyway  ;D ).

I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for particularly good places to go--what I am most interested in is brilliant flora and butterflies.  My trip starts in London and works its way through the Midlands and Yorkshire and then to Northumbria and up to Edinburgh.  A couple of places on my list are St. James' Park in London and the Jesmond Dene in Newcastle, to get started.

I've done some Google searches to investigate the flora in the area in late May/early June, but I'm getting frustrated with all the returns for actual flower shops!

I promise to share any good pictures!

I found this in a book, 1001 days out with your kids, even if you don't have kids, this looks like a cool place. I haven't been yet, but have been meaning to. Also, Stratford upon Avon is a really pretty area.

St. James' Park in London

I just did this last weekend. The flowers and trees were in bloom very lovely!

Daffodils are everywhere these days!! Something I definitely want to check out are the bluebells. Check out this link for ideas of where to go as part of the Woodland Trust.

I hear the Lake District is scenic. i don't know much about the midlands. Lots of my travel in the UK has been along the coasts.

Good luck and let me know where you find the butterflies!!!
