IO Fear
« on: April 10, 2006, 09:18:19 PM »
Ok I don't know where I got this fear and I have posted about this before, but I have a fear that the IO at the airport is going to turn me away.  I have my fiancee visa and all my paperwork, but I have heard horror stories of thes IO's making it a personal vendetta and game to keep people out of the UK, I desperatly want to be with my DH and am just freaking out.  Does anyone have any words of advice or warnings before I go?

If you've jumped through the right hoops (ie, gotten your fiancée visa) and haven't falsified anything to obtain it, then you have no worries.  Walk through confidentially and answer questions honestly.

I can't remember hearing anything on UKY about people with fiancée visas being turned away.

I don't think i've ever heard about anyone on here being turned away once they've gotten their FV.

I have heard of people getting turned away when questioned when they go to visit...which is why I've been freaking out even though I've already been there.

You'll be fine though! don't stress...you want it to be enjoyable!

Reply honestly to routine questions (and even non-routine questions!),stay confident and be polite, and you should be fine! Just remember that it'll go by quickly, and once you've answered the questions (if there is any) you'll be through and ready to marry! ;D

I was very worried too, but got through with no problems at all, the guy just asked me if I was coming to get married, and when it was, said congrats and told me I was done.

It took maybe 5 minutes and that was with quite a few people in front of me, the worst was waiting for my baggage for 30 mins, and no way to text my df to let him know I was through ;)

You'll be fine though :) The only time I know of that they would turn someone away is if they lied on their application to get the entry clearance.

My Romanian friend was quizzed by immigration on entry.  They were rather nasty to her, actually asked her more questions than the ECO in Bucharest did, and she was worried and upset for quite a while.

Then again, she's Romanian.  Your American, so I imagine it will be fine.

Ah.. try not to worry ...  :) When I came in last Dec. on my fiance visa , there were two IOs there to meet me , I did have a refusal from a previous visit attempt  and figured I would be stopped ... but I knew also that  I had the fiance visa clearence from the consulate in NY . Both IOs calmly asked questions and I in return answered honestly . I did have to sit for a five minute wait only because there was a line behind me , when it cleared they took another look at my passport , gave me brief instructions concerning my spousal visa and I went on my merry way ... You'll be fine  ;)

When Chris came over for the 6 months we where called in I was called quickly with in 15 minutes to confirm what Chris had said the only problem Chris had was they refused to let him get into his wheelchair and his bum was hurting from the one the airport where using in the end his dad just went and got it and got someone to help him transfer into it. This made me upset as it could have caused health problems for Chris and they where not sympathetic to the fact he needed to go into his own chair.

But they let him in and now we are going back to be married 3 weeks yesterday  ;D.

You'll be fine...especially since you have your fiance visa!  It's the visitors that come in who have to worry...if they are staying for an extended period of time and cannot prove when they are returning it can be quite a grueling interrogation at the IO counter.  I got questioned for an hour when I came in, but I answered all the questions honestly, they were able to contact my fiance and ask him if he could and was willing to support me and they eventually stamped my passport.  It was very stressful standing there, but I understood WHY they were doing it.
