Italiano Piazza
« on: April 12, 2006, 03:53:07 AM »
I consider myself to be a bit of a pizza connoisoir, so to speak, and would like your impressions on what is the art of pizza.

I prefer a thin crust with a zesty sauce, the freshest buffaloe mozzarella cheese, fresh basil leaves and a smattering of pure virgin olive oil, baked with mesquite chips in a Dutch oven.

Bloody barry pukka.

Any other Italian pizza lovers out there?

Mmmmmm, defintely.  Deep Pan is evil and wrong!

I know the best pizza place in London if you are interested...proper Italian pizzas, and you can actually watch the chefs tossing the dough around to make the bases through the window.

Absolutely! Thin crust all the way! No sauce for me, though. Sauce is BAD. ;D  I prefer fresh sliced homegrown tomatoes on my za.

Aunty Ethel always told me to keep the buffalo away from the mozzarella.

'La Porcetta' is the place.  There is a branch in Finsbury Park, on the Stroud Green Road, and a couple others around Islington I think.  Absolutely brilliant.

I'm an equal-opportunity pizza slut! I love 'em all, anytime, anyplace! Thin, thick, greasy, cheesy, cheap, expensive, meat or veggie, saucy, whatever!

I like 'New York' Italian pizza...thin crust, red sauce, mozzarella, sprinkling of herbs & dripping with olive oil.  Looking forward to having the good stuff soon in Tampa Bay! ;D

And I don't know what 'Bloody barry pukka' means? ???

There'a a La Porcetta in Islington, is that the one? I have heard their pizzas are amazing.  We were going to go there a couple of times but each time were put off by the place looking somewhat grubby.

Mmmmm. La Porcina is fab. There's one in Angel.

We can't get decent pizza delivered to us at home.  :(

Britwife is right, I was so bedazzled by the pizzas that I got the name wrong and have amended!

They are a bit rough and ready (although the one nr Upper Street looks a bit posh) but there are far from grubby.  The good thing is that because the decor is basic you don't pay through the nose.

oh well we don't live in that area any more so guess we missed out.  There was another good takeaway place in Islington though called Sorrento.  Lots of nice toppings including things like feta and sundried tomatoes.
