Shooting sports opertunities?
« on: April 15, 2006, 11:32:13 PM »
Ok, I realize this is a longshot but here goes...  I am a competitive pistol shooter (think Olympic style competition not the drunken redneck or overenthusiastic cop) as pistol ownership is banned in UK I am wondering if there might be other shooting sports that are common in the UK, perhaps shotgunning ie. skeet or trap?   Does anyone on this forum participate in something along these lines in UK or know someone that does?  Suppose I could take up Cricket but you'll never make me a soccer player...heart just wouldn't be in it.

I move early August 06' and would like to have a mildly competitive hobby with the chance to meet some new people.

I shoot trap here in the UK. I got started here at Bisley. There are plenty of sports clubs in the UK with different facilities

And it is correct you cannot legaly shoot pistols here, even the olympic athletes have to travel outside the country to do so.

Great website, thanks!  I am curious did you bring over any firearms or is it wiser to purchase in UK.   I own an extensive reloading outfit that saves a great deal of money on ammunition here, is this legal and common for shooters to do there?  I would love to bring it with me it was expensive and would ease the pain of the thousands of $ in pistols I must leave behind....

Thanks alot!

I did not bring any of my "loved ones" here when I moved over. They are all still in Chicago. I had a shotgun made for me here and I bought one at a show. I would suggest leaving everything behind for a while till you look into the licensing and permit hurdles you must complete. That includes your reloader. From what I understand there are seperate permits involved with the purchase of powder.
