So as some of you know I became a US citizen last November
I applied for my passport near the end of February and chose the regular "6-week" processing time because I didn't have any pressing trips planned. Well of course, that all changed when I decided to go over to England for a week in May, so I've been on pins and needles waiting for my passport to get here. So,
eight weeks later (with my non-refundable ticket and departure date creeping ever closer) my passport *finally* arrived in my mailbox today!! I actually called the passport information line last week and found out that all the agencies are running behind (especially New Orleans, where my passport was processed.)
Anyway, I am so relieved, and excited! A US passport means not only can I leave the country for my trip, but that I have easier access to so many other countries now (no more visas for visiting Europe!) And of course, it's a real, concrete reminder that I am *really* done with US immigration FOREVER!!
