Yoga studios in Bath or Bristol?
« on: April 24, 2006, 03:25:33 PM »
I'm moving to either Bath or Bristol in September and I was curious if anyone could recommend a good yoga studio? Right now I take a power yoga class that is based on vinyasa, but I also enjoy hot yoga. Thanks!

I am curious about this too. Ever heard of Yogates? I am currently taking this class in Seattle. Its a very pleasant combination of Yoga and Pilates. You feel like you've had a work out, but are nice and stretched. I don't think its made it to the UK yet.

Interesting...no I haven't heard of it. I always found pilates kind of boring, but if it's mixed with yoga, then that could definitely be more fun. If you haven't found anything before I get over there, maybe we can check out some places together.

Sounds good - I'll start checking around when I get there.

Both in Bristol

You won't find as many *fad* yogas in the UK - most methods stick to a specific methodology.  I say *fad* yogas as many of the trendy yogas taught in the USA are versions of Hatha, Iyengar, Ashtanga, etc. Which incidentally are actually all Hatha - but anyway.....

You won't normally find a qualified yoga teacher here that mixes with pilates - they are conflicting disiplines.

In Bath you might find some *trendy* yogas - but the teachers may or may not be qualified to actually teach.

Richard Agar Ward and his wife Kirstin are Iyengar yoga teachers in Bath and definitely worth contacting.   Just do a google on their names or under any Iyengar Yoga directory.

Gerry and Lynda at Yoga West in Bristol are both senior teachers and very good.  Gerry's class kicks ars*!

Bristol City Yoga teaches different methods of yoga - Iyengar, Buddhist methods, Satyananda Yoga.  Lizzie's classes are good, she's a Beginner's (Iyengar) teacher - she and I are in the same Intermediate class.
