I loved Fever Pitch (and most Nick Hornby books)!  Whilst I couldn't identify totally with all he was going through, it was still a good insight into a football supporter's life.  I read another called Up Steps Mickey Gray: Diary of a Sunderland Fan.  This one was actually a diary and was soooo funny.  Especially if you understand the history of Sunderland (up and down club) and their rivalry with Newcastle.

I did, Howard, and remarked to hubby that it looked more a rugby score than a footie score.  It must have been a day for the underdogs cos even Sunderland beat Nottingham Forest.

Me too, but in a more recent fashion.  Hubby, the sad Sunderland supporter that he is, has a video of it.

Fever Pitch was made into a film actually, and definitely a very good insight into what life with a fanatical supporter is like. Colin Firth was the lead in that, so some eye candy for those who fancy him, no lack of you lot around here. ;)

Ditto that, I never fancied him either. ;)

Thank you TonyS, glad to see the Arsenal number increase. I just need to get my hubby to login and cast his vote as well.

Do any of you attend matches at all? Hold season tickets? One of the saddest things to me is that it's so difficult to get tickets for the big clubs. My hubby's family holds 4 season tickets, and has done for decades, so often when someone doesn't go, my hubby is able to use their ticket. I'll be pushing him to get one when the new stadium is built. I've been to two matches myself, it was great fun, nothing like it that I've ever experienced. :)

I occasionally go to matches, but what I find so prohibitive is the price of tickets.  For a family of three to attend a Chelsea match, it's a better part of £100 and we haven't even counted travel, food, match programmes, or sundry items.
