need some help fast about London
« on: May 19, 2006, 07:01:40 PM »
My wife's girlfriend is flying into Heathrow and it's been "delegated" to me to hook the two of them up with a hotel for Sun, Mon, Tue, night.  What tube station does the Heathrow express (assuming there is one) take you too when you arrive there.  So if i'm trying to get them a hotel in the Kensington area, what would she need to do when she gets off the plane and gets her baggage at Heathrow to make her way to the Kensington area?  Thanks for the help everybody.

Heathrow Express takes you to Paddington.  She should get her bags, follow the signs to the Heathrow Express and buy a ticket for the train.  Then she can take it to Paddington (only one stop) and take a cab to the hotel.

that's great, any idea how much a taxi would be from Paddington to a hotel near Earls Court station?  Or should she just take the tube from there?

Well I'm not really sure...maybe around 10-15 pounds?  but yes she could easily take the tube - the District line goes from Paddington to Earl's Court easily.

that's great, thanks, just out of curiosity.  What would a taxi run (ballpark figure) from heathrow to kensington area?  Or is that just unheard of.

I think about 60 GBP, depending on the time of day/traffic, etc.

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

if the hotel is in earls court area, it would be easier, faster and cheaper to just take the tube; picadilly line; from heathrow to earls court. no changes, and much less hassle than coming down from paddington.....

just be mindful of the amount of potential luggage and whether these people are used to lugging luggage up and down steps, elevators, escalators etc. A £60 taxi may be worth it in the long run.

She could just get on the Piccadilly line at Heathrow and get off at Earl's Court, no changes.  Just tell her to make sure to get on a train for Arnos Grove or Cockfosters.

Well you can take the Tube all the way from the airport as well, no need to take the  Heathrow Express.  If you are getting off somewhere on the Piccadilly line (e.g. Earl's Court) you just get on.  It is a lot easier than transferring at Paddington, though the Piccadilly line isn't as luggage friendly and is a bit of a walk from Terminal 1 and 2.  Just follow the signs to the underground instead of the Heathrow Express.  It takes about an hour that way, but it is a "no brainer".

I would suspect Heathrow Express transferring at Paddington to the tube would be about the same amount of time and slightly more expensive.
