Chattanooga to Sheffield (summer 2004)
« on: January 12, 2004, 10:04:33 PM »
Hello all,
This board has been very helpful in answering many of the myriad of questions that come up with an oversees move.  My wife and I are moving to Sheffield this summer for her to begin PhD studies at the University in applied linguistics.  I am a mechanical engineer. My current employer has agreed to allow me to telecommute from Sheffield for the 3 years we will be there.  I'm in the process of working out the details of how to make that work with work permits, taxes, etc.

I don't know if there are any members in Sheffield, but I welcome any suggestions or comments.  We'll be over looking for housing this spring.

Hi there Andrew!

I can't be much help on the Sheffield front though we do have some friends there.   :)

I am glad to hear that your company is allowing you to telework.  Wish more would do the same.

I too will be working on a PhD, but not sure where yet as I am in the preliminary stages (though deadlines are fast approaching!)

Please feel free to post any specific questions that might arise in the future as you will find us a willing group to help out. :)

Hi Andrew, welcome to UKY.  I hope you will find everything you need here to make your transition easiest.  Actually I'm sure you will.  It always amazes me that, collectively, this board can tell you just about anything.  Good luck and write soon.

Hi, Andrew, and welcome!

My daughter Julia is at Sheffield University, reading History, in her 2nd undergraduate year - so we're getting to know Sheffield quite well!

Hi Andrew.  I am thinking about moving near Sheffield.  My boyfriend lives in a small village about a half hour away.  I may be attending Sheffield University to supplement the JD/MBA that I will be getting here at the end of the year.

I'm pretty anxious about moving and that's why I decided to join this group.
