letter of "credible coverage"
« on: June 05, 2006, 10:50:36 PM »
Hello ...

I'm heading to the UK (from the US) and have come up against what seems to be a nightmare scenario, and I wonder if anyone has any tips.

In the UK, my wife and I will qualify for coverage under the NHS because I'm an Irish citizen. But if we come back to the US in two years, and try to get health insurance, I'm worried that no insurance company will cover my wife's pre-existing condition, since we've been "uninsured" for so long.

The good people at Blue Cross Blue Shield say everything would be fine if I had a "letter of credible coverage" from the NHS that would prove that we've had health coverage ... but would the NHS provide me with such a letter?

I'm sure every insurance company is different, but I can't imagine why we should be punished for moving to a country that considers healthcare to be a right... but then again, I'm not an insurer.

Has anyone experienced this, or have any ideas about what we're getting ourselves into?

Thanks!

Dave
