We got 2 pounds for 1.50 at the market last week!  just don't buy them in the supermarket.

Definitely hit the market or a farm shop. Grocery store cherries might be imported from a great distance which would drive the price up. Or make it an excuse to schedule a weekend in Italy - we were there last week and the cherries were gorgeous and very, very plentiful!!   ;)

Definitely try the markets.  I think they're £1.99/kilo at the one nearest to my work.

I'll definately hit a fresh market this weekend.  I'm craving them like mad but I just won't pay that sort of money!! I've been eyeing them for months now.  At first I thought they were so pricey because it wasn't cherry season.  But I remember eating loads of them every summer so if they're not in season now I don't know when they would be.  Oh I can't wait!!!  Mmmm cherries!!  *drool*  :P

I love them too! But weirdly I HATE cherry flavoured things.... Hmmm.

They may start coming down in price everywhere now - it took Spring a loooong time to get here this year - maybe the crops are like my dahlias - afraid to come out!!

I always indulge in one bag of the Ranier cherries from M&S once a year. They are to DIE for!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

If I remember the suckers were quite expensive in the USA... at least in VA and GA...

I bought some great cherries this morning from the bloke at Vauxhall BR station - £1 for half a pound, £1.80 for a pound.  A little pricey, but bloody lovely!

I wondered the same thing when we went to ASDA. I was like OMG YUMMIE CHERRIES! and then saw the price and couldn't believe it.

In the U.S. they are not quite in season yet.  They are $7.99 a pound.
I'll wait another couple of weeks.

I usually do splurge once or twice on the Ranier variety.
