Key Lime Pie recipe?
« on: June 26, 2006, 11:47:40 AM »
Does anyone have a good recipe they could post or pm to me please?  Just remembered I said I'd make one for the boyf and I have no clue where to start!!!

Momma Cherri's had ginger nut biscuits in the base if that helps.

Thanks,

Vicky

Will send one shortly!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I've never tried key lime pie...
is it like lemon meringue, except with lime instead of lemon?

More like a subtle lime cheesecake.

I haven't made it yet, but I will let you all know how it goes when I do.

This thread has absolutely got me craving Key Lime pie, now. lol
Here are a couple links I found with recipes, though I haven't personally tried any of them out. I used to make the occasional pie when I worked in a gourmet restaurant a couple years back, but don't recall all of the ingredients.

If it helps, I just took a quick peek at the ASDA website. They've got lime juice.  :)

There's a world of difference between lime juice and key lime juice! If you can get real key lime juice, do it!  :D

Okay, I'll bite.  What IS the difference?  I always thought key lime was just normal lime prepared in a certain way?

No.  Much to my surprise, Key Limes are a totally different fruit.

Key Limes are tiny limes native to Florida.  More specifically to the Keys... hence the name Key Limes.  They are smaller and the taste is just acidic enough to make a differance in your pie.  But normal lime is perfectly okay and will yield a great pie.  Much better than one I saw once that used Lime jello!  :-X

To be honest though bottled juice is bottled juice and the best way to have a true key lime pie is to squeeze the limes yourself.

Barring that nice freshly squeezed limes win out in my book any day. :-)  Just my opinon on the matter though.
