Spouse on Job Seekers?
« on: June 27, 2006, 02:51:10 PM »
My husband is currently looking for work, he went to an orientation day last week for a company but it waiting to hear back about an interview. He got the paperwork through today to go on Job Seekers. I've read that it shouldn't hurt us too much when applying for the spousal visa, especially since he won't be applying for additional benefit for me (as his wife). Just verifying that it won't hurt our application too much. By the time we apply (next month) we're hoping he has the job he's after. Any further thoughts?

As a UK citizen, your husband is entitled to benefits.  If there's any question over whether his income can support you, he can always have someone else (usually his parents) write a letter saying they'll help out (and they'll need to include bank statements).

Thank Lola

We thought about doing that, but we're already asking his parents for a letter stating we can stay there until we can afford our own place so getting them do include their bank statements might be too much for them. (They're very private people apparently when finances come in). We'll see how it goes I guess. Thanks!

Well, H went to go sign on to Jobseekers today....

He was told that since I'm not in the country, even though he couldn't claim anything for me anyway, he wouldn't claim himself either. I'm not really sure why, as Lola said...as a British Citizen he has the right to benefit. WTF

But...he then got a call from the job he went for and he starts tomorrow! Thank god!

Sounds like yet another instance where people just don't know what's going on!  He's entitled to benefits just like any other UK citizen -- doesn't matter who or where you are.  I don't know much about benefits, so he could have been denied for another reason, but it shouldn't have anything to do with you.  ???

Glad to hear he doesn't need the benefits anyway!  :D

Yeah, if we didn't get the call about the job then we'd have to fight it... I don't think he was denied for any other reason (he was on it a bit before we were married). Glad its one less drama we have to go through though!
