DJD - the Immigration Advisory Service is a charity which helps people who have immigration problems. They are not part of the government, and they are in fact an extremely influential pressure group as well as an excellent and worthwhile free representative service.
And the 'single parent lesbian' stuff is just crap. And is the sort of thing said by people who are ticked off at poor service, but who actually don't know any real refugees so have to jump on pathetic stereotypes.
Dreamy - as has been said, your wife would get Indefininte Leave, which is permanent residency - this would only be cancelled if she spent two years out of the UK.
