Spouse Visa
« on: July 04, 2006, 08:33:04 AM »
When I was applying for my fiance visa, I found a really useful post from someone who had done the same thing telling me what form she filled out and what items she sent to get her visa approved.  That proved very useful and my visa was approved the same day it was received.

Now it's time for me to get my two year spouse visa, and I'm once again at a loss with all the legal jargon and mumbo jumbo.

If someone's got the time, can they fill me in on what they did to get their spouse visa?

Modified because I figured the question out.  But I have a new one...

On the FLR form, do I need to fill it out under my maiden or married name?

That's been covered too.  You put whichever name you want, but it will be issued in whichever name your passport is in.

Thanks.

Sorry about the questioning, but with so many topics and posts on this site it's hard to find exactly what you're looking for without reading everything.

Thanks.

That's a good point- and search helps, but it doesn't catch all the relevant results.  Maybe it's time to compile a FAQ for visa questions and make it a sticky post?

Well, as I'm on summer holiday I'd be willing to trawl through the old posts in this forum and compile a sort of directory/FAQ.  (That is, if there's support for this kind of thing?) I'm training to be a librarian, after all- making information more accessible is what I want to do for a living :)

I think an FAQ's for the little things that crop up might be a good idea...things like whether to put maiden or married name, what constitutes a previous relationship akin to marriage...clearing up the little nuances which aren't explained on the form.

If you find the main queries I am happy to provide or check over the answers.

There is a pretty good FAQ's section here http://www.londonelegance.com/transpondia/faq.shtml  It could be stickied maybe....

I am new to this post, but I have some questions regarding a spousal visa.  I am currently pursuing jobs in the UK of which I will be given a work permit.  My husband's US company has agreed to allow him to work out in the UK remotely.  So we will be applying for him to get a spousal visa.  Has anyone had this experience and if so, I have some questions:

1. Is there a salary requirement in the UK to bring your spouse? Is there a certain lucky amount to have in savings to show I can support him?

2. If we tell the authorities that he is working remotely for a US company will they insist that he apply for a work permit/visa and have to prove that his position wouldn't otherwise be available for a local?

We will be pursuing this in the next few wks and want to get everything in line.

Thank you,
Amity

a nitpicky thing- your husband will not be applying for a spousal visa, but a work permit dependent visa.  Spousal visas are for spouses of British citizens and ILR holders.

Can't help much with #1, but about your second question... your husband has to apply for a visa in order to live in the UK with you, but once he gets the visa he will be able to work anywhere he wants without restrictions.

You need to show that you have enough money to support yourselves, but if you are going to be earning enough to meet the work permit criteria then this is likely to be sufficient.  If you include his salary, you will almost certainly be fine.

Thank you for the information and clarification.  I didn't realize there was a difference for a Spousal visa.  I go to Scotland on the 24th of July for a social worker interview.  What I have been told is that work permits take roughly 1-2 wks to issue and then work permit entry clearance visas take about 2 wks also.  Has that been your experience or what you know?  I am trying to plan so I can give my current employer sufficient notice, but as I am learning that is very difficult to do...planning that is:)

Anyone know what type of health screening needs to be done prior to applying for a visa?  I was reading online that if my work permit is for more than 6 mths, a health screen will need to be performed.  Not sure what this is so I can get this done in preperation for the application.  Will my spouse need to do this also?

I was reading through the visa experience section and people list all of these documents including proof of the relationship other than a marriage certificate.  Being that we are both US citizens is that something we will have to do also or is there a website or link that discusses documents, etc for the application for a entry clearance visa for work permit and work permit dependent.

As you can see I have a lot of questions and appreciate any guidance you all might have.

Everything is on www.ukvisas.gov.uk

You won't need a health screening, unless you have been in a high risk country recently.
You don't need proof of relationship - that is for spousal and fiance visas, not spouse of work permit holders.

Your HR department will be experienced in this, so they will help you, but their time scales seem right to me.
