what to say at immigration
« on: July 05, 2006, 11:07:14 AM »
I am travelling to see hubby 1st of August for 2 weeks. Now we are recently married, and each time i have gone through immigration before on the US side, when they have asked the purpose of my visit i have just said to visit family and friends. I have always gone through Chicargo and never had any problems.

This time i am flying straight to Rileigh Durham NC, if they ask this time do i say i am travelling to visit my husband before he deploys, or do i just say i am visiting family and friends.  I really dont want to be turned back from seeing him. when i travelled to see him for us to get married all the officer said was do you have friends at camp lejuene and i said yes and that was it.

I dont know if i am worrying unneccesarily, but you hear stories of people being denied for all sorts of petty reason, and more serious ones too.

I can't imagine they'd turn you back if your husband is about to be deployed....that would be awful  >:(  I'd just tell the truth and bring proof of ties back in the UK (like your kids and your job)- that should be more than enough to allay any suspicions, I would think.

(Side note- I live in Durham, NC- 20 minutes from the Raleigh-Durham airport.  Except...I'm moving back to my parents' house in Texas about 3 days before you fly in!)
Now a triple citizen!

Since you are legally married and you have a return ticket to the UK I am assuming, I would suspect the best thing to do is tell them "I am travelling to visit my husband before he deploys."  They should not blink twice.

Where is your port of entry, because US Immigration happens at the port of entry, not at your final destination, meaning are you flying direct to Raleigh or are you stopping somewhere in the US first?
WARNING My thoughts and comments are entirely my own.  Especially when it comes to immigration and tax advice, I am not a professional.  My advice is to seek out professional advice.  Your mileage may vary!

My port of entry is Releigh Durham, i am travelling straight from London Gatwick.

Yes honesty is the best policy. I have a return ticket. I will take my deeds to my house, my work contract and kids birth certificates, i think that should do the trick.
