Marriage License/Certificate with Raised Seal
« on: July 08, 2006, 03:37:28 PM »
Ok I'm freaking out but...

We don't have a marriage license (got married in the US) with a raised seal. They never gave us one. They have the county seal on them and the deputy clerk did stamp it and fill in the date with "State of Florida, Volusia County. I Hereby Certifiy the foregoing is a true copy of the original filed in this office. This 29th day of June 2006. Clerk of the Circuit Court [ her signature].

It has all the information and is sealed with the official seal but the seal isn't raised or anything. I'm confused  ::)

I didn't think mine did either.  But when I ran my hands over the paper I found it.  It is just one of those round paper crimp stamps.  Any chance you missed your's too?

Thought I posted but guess it didn't show up so here it is again.

Mine has the same wording as yours - true and certified copy of the original that is filed in the clerk's office.  It's not a big deal.  I have used mine everywhere - immigration, to get a new passport, to get my entry clearance to come here.  No problems at all.

I live in Oregon.  Neither Oregon nor Washington give "original" copies of divorces.  Washington does not give "originals" of Marriage Licenses either.  I don't know what Washington does, but I sent my Oregon divorce papers (notorized copies) down to Salem to the Vital Records offices there.  I paid $20, and they authenticated the papers and gave an Apostille (which is required for the UK, as well as some other countries).  They can also do this with Marriage Licenses (though in Oregon they do have raised seals).  If your state did not give you a license with a raised seal, check with the office of Vital Statistics (or whatever version your state has) and ask about getting your license authenticated and get an Apostille for it.
