UKM Notification Process
« on: July 18, 2006, 01:22:21 PM »
First a thank you to everyone for the threads that provided such helpful information on registering as a british citizen using the UKM.

I submitted my application and received a letter on April 25th from the Washington Embassy that the paperwork had been sent to Liverpool.    I'm so anxious to get a response, it's been almost 3 months now.

If anyone can tell me how they typically notify you....that would be super.  Is it by mail, fed-ex, phone call, etc.   I'm practically waiting at my door each day for the mail to arrive. ;D     BTW, I live in Montana, so no local embassy here.

Also, I see by the IND Homeoffice website that registrations are averaging 2.27 months....if I use that average, I'm thinking I should be hearing back from them soon.   But the letter told me not to contact them unless I have not heard anything in 6 months.   Yikes!

Thanks again for all the great help.  This site is going to be enormously valuable to me as I prepare my move.

Cheers!

Ian

My husband received a call from the consulate in Chicago when his application had been completed.
After the call we had to get to Chicago in a somewhat short timeframe for the ceremony.

Thanks for the helpful info JillnPhill.

I'll wait impatiently by the phone instead of the mailbox.    It will be interesting to find out where I will go for the ceremony.   I'm thinking the San Fransisco consulate covers the state of Montana.

Fingers crossed.

Yes, Montana is covered by San Francisco.
Be prepared that you will have to make travel plans on short notice.
I don't recall the specifics but the ceremony HAS to be completed XX? number of days after the application is successful.

In our case, the approval left Liverpool and got held up in Washington DC before being forwarded to Chicago.  By that time there were only three weeks left to complete the ceremony and the Chicago office only did the ceremony on the first Wednesday of the month (or something like that).  We had to plead to get a private ceremony at a different time that would fit our schedule.
