no network?
« on: July 21, 2006, 03:24:15 PM »
I have a Nokia N70 and whenever I turn it on, it takes ages to find a network. It died lastnight, so today I plugged it in to charge, I turned it on a sat there for about 5 minutes and still no network. It always does this when it turns off. I try to avoid letting the battery die and I rarely ever turn it off because of this. Does anyone know why it's having such a problem finding a network? Jamie's phone finds one fine, but mine won't.

Orange. Jamie is on Orange too and he has an older Nokia. I had them next to eachother and Jamie had a really good signal, mine had none.

It must be an Orange thing -- DH has an Orange phone and it can't find a network in certain "hot spots" in our house...I have no trouble at all with my Vodafone phone.

is this a phone you brought with you from the US?  or did you get it here?  and have you always used your N70 on the orange network?

I got it here. I've always used it on an Orange network. It finally found the network halfway down the stairs of the building. It's so moody.

oh.  well there goes my idea then.

maybe you just got a lemon phone.  have you tried exchanging it for a new one?  my friend had that issue with a blackberry she got.  it just turned out she had a dud. the new one they gave her worked fine....???

My hub works for Orange, he says one of two things......Nokia's have very buggy software.  One of his friends has the same phone as you and has all kinds of weird issues with it.  Some phones get better signals than others, because of the way their software is designed.  Its all to do with geeky power outputs and such.

He said... let the battery fully charge, while the phone is on...take the battery out.  Put the battery back in and turn phone back on and see if you notice any change.  If you still have no improvement, he suggests you report the phone as faulty.  Hopefully its still under warranty?!

 ;)

I got it the Christmas that just passed, so I still have plenty of time left. I'll do what he suggested and if not, I'll send it back! Tell your husband many thanks!

I took out the battery like he said and when I turned it on it found the network straight away! Tell your husband I thank him.
