opinions needed on our housing situation
« on: July 29, 2006, 03:16:14 PM »
Hi again,

So, background info: My fiance (UK citizen) and I (US citizen) are getting married in the US on August 13th. I was planning on applying for my visa and moving over to England by mid-September. His grandparents are throwing us a party on September 30th for the people who can't make it to the wedding in the US.

But the only problem so far is - he hasn't found us a place to live yet. (He's currently living with his grandparents.) He just looked at a house today that seems perfect and meets all our requirements and is within his price range, except the lease doesn't start until October 4th.

So, do I:

a) apply for my visa anyway at the beginning of September, and say that we'll be staying with his grandparents until the 4th (we'll have our own bedroom)
b) change the date of the party and apply for my visa after the 4th
c) have him keep looking for a different apartment...

And if I do option a, do I still bring paperwork from his grandparents house - their deed, etc.? Or do I not have to bring paperwork for their place because it's obviously a temporary situation?

He's been looking for a place for months and we're really running out of time since he's coming over in a week and a half. I just wish everything would be settled already!

Michelle

Option A is fine. You'll need to bring a letter from them stating that they're okay with the two of you staying there until you get a place of your own. And, yes, you will want to bring something like the deed to prove that they own the house and have the right to allow you to stay there.

Yup I agree with the above post. You'll need either the deed or mortgage papers (we sent in the yearly mortgage statement which had my H's parents' property's address on it and details of the mortgage payments). And a letter from they stating you can stay with them and you should be good to go on that front.
