mortgage-job question
« on: August 06, 2006, 06:45:32 PM »
I know it probably varies, but anyone know how long (generally?) you need to be in a job here before you can get a mortgage? Or count your income towards a mortgage? (I'm still looking, but we'd love to be able to buy as soon as possible!)

(And no, we haven't talked to a mortgage advisor - we can't really afford anything on one income, so figure they'd think we're wasting their time at the moment...)

Thanks for your input!  :)

They will ask you for 3 months payslips, or 3 months bank statements showing your wages going into the account.

or if you have a large enough deposit you can have a self-certifying mortgage which means you don't need to show any payslips....

Thanks! That's better than the six months I was worried about! :)

How large a downpayment are we talking about? You're meant to have 15% normally, though I know that's fairly flexible, and there are no-downpayment mortgages as well now...

in the UK you can get a 105% mortgage... but the interest rate choices you get with those kinds of mortgages arn't usually the best.

it "seems" that people in the UK arn't as fanitical about having a deposit when they buy their first house... 5-10% seems common.

with my self-certifying mortgage i needed 25% down payment.  they call it the loan/value ratio.  if the loan to value ratio is 3/4 or lower, then you can sometimes get self-certifying.

If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
