Bringing Your Dog Here, What Actually Happens at the Airport?
« on: August 10, 2006, 04:14:33 PM »
I really want to bring my dog here to the UK, but I am concerned because she has some American Staffordshire Terrier in her and this ignorant country has made it illegal to own these types of dogs.  So if I run the risk of bringing her here, she may get seized and destroyed at the airport.

When you have brought your pets and picked them up at the animal reception centre, have the inspectors actually done a thorough search to make sure the pet is not one of these "dangerous" types?  Can someone walk me through what actually happens at the airport?  How many animals are around the animal reception area?

The best thing to do would be to contact DEFRA.  (anonymously, of course)  and find out what percentage of a mix of the breed is considered dangerous.

to be honest, we picked our dog up from the gatwick center and i can tell you that you dont see anything thats going on. its a big warehouse and your told to wait (for us it was about 4 hours) and someone finally brought him out with the paperwork signed and we were off... you dont see anything or are involved at all.

I'm really worried about this too! Curious as to what we can find out. My girls are part jack russell terrier/foxhound and the most gentle sweet dogs, but they are large and they are mutts with no paperwork and because of the breed specific legislation whose to say some dumb person wouldn't mistake them for pitbulls?
I can't find anywhere how strict the guidelines are, and the breed standard seems sorta vague, like a zillion dogs could fit the description..

Oh! here's their new Dogster pages by the way!
