Fertility treatment
« on: August 11, 2006, 10:37:02 AM »
My husband and I have been referred to our local fertility clinic. I'm just wondering what to expect, especially as a permanent resident. I believe that I can receive the regularly covered treatments (per the NHS website) like a regular citizen, but am worried if that is not the case.  Could anyone share their experience with a UK fertility clinic?

I am really glad you posted this because I was hoping someone else would share their experiences as well or give any advice. We were referred 2 years ago to a fertility specialist but because he is the only one in our area he is EXTREMELY backed up.  He has 4-6 month waiting list just between silly appts to go in and chat to him.  I have had a friend and a cousin (living in the U.S.) with similiar problems as myself and we all began seeing doctors around the same time.  My friend now has a child and my cousin is pregnant.  Us?  We are still waiting around for appointments.  I have PCOS and what has annoyed me the most is that at the first session of an intrauterine ultrasound the doctor asked me if I knew I had PCOS?  well, yeah, I told all the doctors this from the beginnning. Then our last scan I had this past week, he asked me the exact same question!  I am a bit disheartened and ready to give up.  But this is not to say it will be your case. Every case is different and the area you live in might not have as long as a waiting list. You should be able to receive regular care covered by the NHS. DH and I started while on my spousal visa. I now have ILR.  I would love to share experiences.  Any insight of other's experiences might help each other.  :)
