moving one item across the pond
« on: August 13, 2006, 01:01:38 PM »
I have a bookshelf my grandfather built for me when I was young, I watched him build it in fact. Anyway, I want to get it over here. I've been looking at the site and most people have moved their entire house. I just need one thing! I never had the money to move it, but with having a job now, I want to see how much it's going to cost. I'm guessing it shouldn't be too much, meaning less than £1,000. Even if it's £800 to move it, it's worth it. It's one of those items you don't want to lose because of the memories. Not only that but it's a really nice bookshelf, I've never seen anything like it that didn't cost a load. I don't mind waiting for it to come over on a boat, I've waited over a year to even be able to afford to get it over. I need to get it from Pennsylvania to Hull. Is there any way to make a post with a list of moving companies and sticky it?

Have you even seen the movie the Jerk with Steve Martin...

Anyways, shipping a single item you don't really need a moving company.  Just check out your local PakMail... http://www.pakmail.com/services/large.asp.  They should be able to help, and I would suspect, if you go the slow boat way, it should cost somewhere around $100.

Most moving companies are very regional in the states and posting a sticky list would probably not make a whole lot sense, but that is just my opinion...

True, didn't think of this.

I am glad someone got it, I thought it might be too obscure...
