About Aberdeen
« on: August 13, 2006, 07:51:44 PM »
I am moving to the Aberdeen area in October/November and would like advice on where to live.

My husband will work from home but I will be looking for employment. I'm not sure when I'll have a car and with fuel prices the way they are I hope to use public transportation. I will probably work in banking or in IT, so I'm guessing I'll be heading into Aberdeen city center.

We like the outdoors and don't really want to live in a high traffic or industrial area, but it would be nice to have groceries and a nice pub or two nearby.

Can anyone offer advice about area that are nice, have decent shopping resources, and good access to transportation? Or maybe some links to good info?

BTW, Google Earth is amazing, but doesn't offer critiques.  :)

Thanks!

First of all I am assuming you are going to be renting when you first get here?
Depending on that there are a few good websites with places to purchase and rent.

There are alot of places outside aberdeen a few miles or so... living in the city of aberdeen is expensive and the places are small..

Website to buy or rent:  New places are posted on Thursdays
1. http://www.aspc.co.uk/

Places to live I like are:
Banchory
Skene
Westhill
Maryculter
Kingswells
stonehaven- lovely but close to the ocean so alot of wind and is colder

It is a start ... one place to stay away from is Torry

For rentals this is website with management companies that rent property

HOpe this helps might want to look into the public transport where it goes and where it is close too..

I am assuming you are talking buses...
Stagecoach is one of the buses and the other I believe is called first

Bless you, Elizabeth! This is exactly what I was looking for!

Yes, we will be renting for awhile, especially until we get the lay of the land. Probably furnished, since it's easiest that way and there seem to be more furnished apartments/houses than unfurnished.

As for public transport, I am hoping for a bus or train or whatever will get me where I need to go...short of hitching with a sheep.

I will check out the links you offered.

Thank you!
