Dell Notebook Battery Recall
« on: August 15, 2006, 10:08:18 AM »
I just ran across this story this morning via Yahoo (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060815/bs_nm/dell_batteries_dc). The battery in my laptop (Inspiron 6000) qualifies for the recall. The "Battery Recall" link can be found at the bottom of the US Dell website - there isn't a link on the UK site yet. I've just gone through the process of ordering a replacement to be sent to the UK and it was very easy to do.

Thanks for the link.

I'm not buying Dell again. I only purchased this notebook a year ago and have had two issues with it. And, working with them to get it fixed now that I'm in the UK was a pain in the....  Now, the casing where the hinges are is splitting and I'm afraid to open and close it because it's just about split apart on both sides and I'm very very gentle with this thing. I'm angry that something I spent over $1000 on is falling apart a year later.

Thank you so much for that!  I'll let the Husband know as well.

I still like Dell (This is my second) mine is still in great condition after a year.  (ATS, that stinks that you have had so many problems, you should be under warranty still right?)

No, the warranty expired about 6 months ago (it's actually been about a year and a half since I purchased it). I didn't bother with renewing it because they would only sell me an international one if I bought it on top of a three year warranty. And, sending it to the US to get repaired was expensive and a total pain. I'll just have to hold out until I can afford a new one.
