question about asthma...
« on: August 16, 2006, 01:03:45 PM »
I dont' think I have it, but have bad hay fever (and other allergies). I've never had any cause to think I had asthma, but the past few weeks, I've been coughing a fair bit, in a wheezy sort of way, and my lungs feel very tight and occasionally really hurt after exercise. Which is unusual. I used to have my lungs hurt a bit after swimming, and just thought it was a reaction to the chlorine. I  have a feeling pollen is pretty bad right now, but I guess I'm after some non-professional advice about whether this is just bad air/pollen, or if I should worry/go to my GP?

thanks!

it never hurts to go to your GP if something is worrying you. you can call NHS direct and see what they say but more than likely going to your GP would be the best option.
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

I would get checked out just to be on the safe side. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was one and my daughter has it also. Mine was very bad when I was younger and have outgrown it for the most part, but occasionally have to use my inhaler. My daughter's is mild, she has never had an asthma attack (knock on wood) but we keep an inhaler just in case. She also does breathing treatments so that helps because she has in the past done some wheezing.  If you have any questions you can PM me.

i would call your GP as adult onset asthma does happen

i went to an asthma clinic as i hadn't been checked in AGES (had since i was a child and hospitalized as a child) and they were really good.

Thanks everyone!  :) I really expected loads of responses saying not to worry, but as it is, as soon as we move and I re-register, I'll mention it. (I'm due for more skin-prick tests anyway.)

FYI, if you are diagnosed with asthma, you get free flu shots.
