Right, I'm more coherent now (as you can probably tell by comparing my last post to this one) and I'll post a quick rundown of my experience for reeeka and anyone else who was curious.
Once I got called back into the surgical area, the nurse made me put my hair in a blue shower-cap looking thing, took my blood pressure, and attached EKG leads to my chest and side. She watched my heartbeat and EKG traces veer wildly from side to side for a few minutes then asked me if I was nervous (well, duh!) My mum got to come into the room for a while and they had her watch a video on how to take care of me post-op. Then after a little bit of waiting the surgeon came in, met my mother and then a nurse took her back out to the waiting room. The doctor lowered the chair I was on so I was lying flat and then he and a nurse put in my IV (which wasn't too bad at all.) Then the nurse put in an oxygen tube into my nose and...that's all I remember.
When I woke up, I was very groggy and could barely move my mouth because of the numbness and swelling. The time in between waking up and leaving the doctor's office is a bit of a haze, although I do remember a few things. I've been recovering nicely at home so far- the pain meds have really helped, along with my trusty bag of frozen peas to help with the jaw ache that occurs every single time I eat something (or slurp something down really since all I've had to eat today has been jello, pudding, and apple sauce.) The bleeding is just now starting to slow down, so I have to be really careful now to avoid disloging the blood clot and getting a dry socket. The best thing of all though is that the little swelling I had went down really quickly and I have NO swelling at all now! Yay!
So, wait and see for the next couple of days (if I make it through the weekend without any major issues it'll probably be a pretty easy recovery), but all in all not too bad. I'm glad I had it done- the pain I have now is obviously from the surgery and very localized, but the dull ache that I had from the impacted wisdom teeth before the surgery is now gone, and I'm grateful I won't have to deal with it anymore!
Thanks again to everyone for sharing their stories and good wishes- it really helped to hear what it had been like for others and how to take good care of myself in my recovery.
