hrm- i don't know if you can get UK credit cards without living there actually...but yeah, your US credit won't count for anything when you get over to the UK, which kind of sucks for the people with years of good credit  :-\\\\

I would just keep the US credit card until you have built up a credit history in the UK.

I find it useful to have a US credit card while living in the UK, as it makes it easier to purchase things online from some American websites.

Be careful though. If you end up in a semi-rural area or an area with few tourists, you could have problems with your US credit card in stores here. The UK has something here called 'chip and pin' and some stores won't accept cards without them and US cards don't have this feature.

Also, you can have problems  with the US cards online when using UK sites if, like me, you keep the US card with a US address (mine is my mother's address).

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Never get rid of your US credit card or you will lose your US credit history.  UK credit ratins are figured quite differently, so the two are not connected.

My US credit card bills are all mailed directly to me here, plus I can and do check them online as well.

Yeah, I kept my US credit card so that I can make sure to keep a credit rating. This way, I make transactions and pay the bill statements so it remains active as well.

What is the best way to pay US credit card bills when you're making pounds over here?

I know there are several different way a lot of people on here do it.  I simply transfer money back to my account in the states and then pay it over the internet.

My US credit cards have  me listed as a foreign (UK) address. All my paper mail from them comes to me here in York.So the address the credit card company has is the same address I get items shipped to.

I pay over the internet using a US bank account.
