Dodgy Areas in Manchester
« on: August 30, 2006, 11:40:04 AM »
I know about Moss Side, and I actually considered living there for the next few months until I found out yesterday that there were some shootings there two weeks ago.  I'm looking for a different place now, but any other areas I should avoid?

Avoid Cheetham Hill (brought up there), Broughton area, also i would sat Gorton, also Longsight. The nicer areas are obviously more expensive.

Is it so you can be close to work /university, let me know and i can tell you which areas near there you need to stasy away from.

Not really to be closer to work or uni.  I'm finishing up uni next week and haven't found work yet, so anywhere is good right now.  Looking at one in Eccles and Radcliffe, but I guess these are really at the outskirts of Manchester.  Still, I really have no idea how far they are and how the areas are.  Also possibly Ardwick.  Thanks.

Ardwick is ok, but still a little rough around the edges, but at the same time it is inexpensive, if you can get somewhere in Chorlton, burnage, fallowfield, they are close to the university areas. or if cash is a prob try north manchester,. I live in Failsworth the other side of the city centre, and it is pretty decent here.

Moss Side is very dodgy!!  As well as Wythenshaw, Cheetam Hill and Longsight.

Withington, Fallowfield and Ladybarn have loads of students.  It's not a bad place to live and is right on the bus line.  Also Northenden isn't bad and Chorlton likes to see itself as very bohemian.  I live in Didsbury but it has become very expensive.  I don't know what the rental properties are like here but there are still a fair number of students and young professionals around.  Whalley Range is nice but it's very close to Moss Side.

I will definitely take note of those places.  I live in Ladybarn now, but since I'm getting kicked out at the end of my program, which is next week, I'm running out of options.  It is harder since I'm looking for a short-term lease until December or January.  There is a possibility in Chorlton, but a more sure one is in North Manchester, Radcliffe.  Thanks all!
