yes yes i know.   :-\\\\
It's a shame this crazy world we live in. Before you know it we'll all have to wear hospital scrubs and slippers on flights.

LOL!! What a visual! Yeah we would look really nice after an 8 hr flight in scrubs with no makeup or toothpaste! Speaking of toothpaste, not only should the airlines give that out (along with a toothbrush), they should also provide a tube of lip moisturizer! I will go crazy without my lipstick. BA first class gives nice Molton Brown stuff (including lip moisturizer), I am not expecting that brand in coach when I fly on my dime but I do need something.  :(

On a more positive note, I got an email from BA last week saying that the old checked baggage weight limit still applies (70 or 75lbs instead of the new 50 limit they were trying to impose). I hope it stays that way at least until the end of the year because I need to do a major shop back in the states.

I'm fairly sure that the BA baggage allowance is going down to 50lbs on October 11th (or that week, anyway) - I seem to remember that I'm going to just barely make it over under the old rules by flying the week before (I'm bringing the cats over on either the 3rd or 4th)....

My makeup is BareMinerals, so it's all powder, except for the mascara. I can do without mascara once arriving, but am glad my makeup is powder so I can touch up the rest. My big thing I'll want on my flight October 5th is Chapstick. I'm addicted to the stuff! Does that count as a liquid or gel? I think it's solid, but I'm not sure what the airport thinks and didnt' see it mentioned in the list of banned items.

Can you take electronics on board? Someone told me they were baned now for flights to/from the UK, but I wasn't sure if that's correct

My sons flew back from the USA a few weeks ago. They were told they could bring electronic items on board by they had to be xrayed. Im not sure if its the same coming from the UK.

So makeup...can we use a creme foundation in a compact? I usually use liquid but I realize thats a no. And no lipstick either? Is there a list somewhere? I read "no make up" but wasnt sure if that meant no liquid make up.

I am just giving up on the makeup all together since we will be sleeping most of it.  I will deal with it once we arrive!  Who cares what I look like. Everyone usually ends up smelling anyway by the time we get off the plane!   ;D

No there is a delay to that policy, the old one is still in place. Per the BA website today.

Delay to the implementation of checked and excess baggage policy

Following the introduction of new hand baggage restrictions by the UK Department for Transport, the decision has been taken to delay the implementation of the checked and excess baggage policy.

The new policy, announced in June, was due to be implemented from October 11, 2006, but will now be launched when we are clearer on the longer-term plans for hand baggage restrictions for all airlines in the UK and around the world.

We believe it is prudent to delay the launch so that we can undertake a full review of the policy, in light of the UK government's restrictions on hand baggage. This will allow us to understand fully the implications for the changes we had planned for our checked baggage allowances and excess baggage charges.

I was searching around for what you can and cannot take onboard, and I found a really helpful checklist that lays out everything clearly.  http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

I flew the day the rules changed (to NYC) and then about 5 days after. (to PA) It was crazy on the day. Most people had a "well if they don't want me to have it, they can find it themselves" attitude. It took forever to get through the line because people kept trying to talk security into letting them keep a lip gloss or a bottle of water. I saw a lady in line behind me throw a full out temper tantrum over her make up.

DF and I just checked everything. We put our cameras/mp3 players in my purse. We had originally packed a back pack each and wanted to just carry them on. We even made it a point not to put any razors/etc in just for that reason. Oh well.

I guess my attitude with carrying stuff on has always been, if it's questionable, just don't bother trying to take it on. Take your shoes/belt/etc off while your waiting to go through the metal detector, not right when you get up there.

I know Continental's baggage allowance is 50lbs per bag but they have also said that in addition to 2 checked  pieces per person they will accept a 3rd piece the size of a carry on free of charge.

Thanks Curlz.  That link is very helpful and I bookmarked it.
Funny how you can bring corkscrews, screwdrivers and knitting needles but you cant bring mascara or toothpaste!  ::)

I agree. Very good link.

Now I know I'll have to check my cattle prod but can carry 4oz. of personal lubricant.  ::)

Thanks for the link.  Its so surprising what you can take on?? No lipstick or chap stick though.  Makes no sense.  ::)  Make up I can live without during the flight but without chap stick after my lip stick goes....I am going to be miserable.  >:(

No flying for me unless I have to. I just hope things improve before we travel back to the states later this year.

according to the link you can bring lipstick or chapstick, you just can't bring liquid or gel stuff, so a solid tube of lipstick or chapstick would be fine, but one of those plastic squeeze tubes of blistex wouldn't be.  Your lips can be fine--bring the chapstick, just make sure it is not a gel one or liquid lip gloss.

I just think it's shocking really. One can jam a corkscrew right into someone's jugular but that's no threat....look out that girls got mascara and toothpaste!!!!!
