Traveling to the US tomorrow... update on plastic bag?
« on: September 06, 2006, 08:27:23 PM »
I am traveling to US tomorrow morning... and I have look everywere and cannot find information. What is the status of the "only a transparent plastic bag" as carry on?
Are airlines allowing more carry -on now? I imagine the ban on liquids (or liquid-ish) is still on, right?

Are we back to normal?

I flew from Heathrow to LA on August 26th and back to Heathrow yesterday and I was able to take a small carry on on board.  You can find the latest info on allowable/non-allowable items on the BAA website here http://www.baa.co.uk.  Just click the airport you are leaving from and there should be a security link on the airport's website.  As far as I know though, you can take a small carry on bag on the plane as long as you don't bring any liquids or cosmetics.

Hope that helps.

not quite back to normal- one small carryon bag is all you're allowed (and many of the wheeled carryons don't fit the new size requirements unfortunately!)

Quote
Each passenger is permitted to bring one carry-on bag through the airport security check point. The dimensions of this item must not exceed a maximum length of 45 cm (17.7 inches), width of 35 cm (13.7 inches), and depth of 16 cm (6.2 inches) including wheels, handles, side pockets, etc.

And yeah, still no liquids/gels.

I thought for a second you said "crayon bag" and I was thinking how silly I would look walking through the airport with a plastic bag full of crayons as my carry on!

i thought i was gonna get it for having my asthma inhaler but you can't check them as the depressurization is bad for them.

they did highlight it in security and they did check every bit of my bag, but i told the guy flat out i had one and he said 'yeah that is prob what he saw but i have to check through everything anyway'

the guy was super nice....so i didn't mind

i *was* at london city airport though.  i shudder thinking of flying out of the biggies

I cant believe they wont allow cosmetics or toiletries! I mean who doesnt want to brush their teeth or touch up their make-up after an 8 hour flight?
I hope this changes before my next flight back in Dec.

yes yes i know.   :-\\\\
It's a shame this crazy world we live in. Before you know it we'll all have to wear hospital scrubs and slippers on flights.

While on that point there are now a big rush in pre-pasted tooth brushes.  There was another thread on here about some places where you can buy them.

Of course I never have any grace or style after an 8 hour flight.  I do whatever I can to get to a shower and change clothes whenever I get some place after a long flight.  Everyone else can put up with my stink until then!  :o

<hijack>
I ended up buying toothpowder from Amazon.com...I have toothbrush 'issues' and didn't want to have to switch brushes.  :)

Don't they still allow you to buy things at the airport shops after you've gone through security? I thought someone told me that. If it's true, you could always buy a toothbrush, toothpaste and some temporary throw-away makeup to see you through. I agree, though. After a long flight, you need to freshen up.

I know at least with water, you could buy it but you had to dispose of it before you got on the plane. When we flew back to the UK after these new restrictions they had people checking all hand luggage as we entered the plane, that was something new to me-- usually it is just a random check after the initial security check.

I heard this also. I mean if we buy new/sealed items from an airport shop then I cant see why there would be a problem but you never know. Most large airports have a Boots in them which is where I get most my stuff anyway. I would just hate to have to buy brand new stuff everytime I step on a plane. Maybe like you said I can get "temp throw-away makeup" just for the flight. Of coure I could end up looking like clown but it's better than nothin!   [smiley=gorgeous.gif]
As far as the toothpaste thing I have a feeling the airlines may have to start providing passengers with small tubes like the kind you get in a hotel. I have heard of the powder but I worry it would make me gag. When I was little my dad tried to get me to use baking soda once. YUCK!

When I flew to California in april before the rules changed I flew out on Virgin Airlines. they gave everyone a little vanity bag with a sleep mask, a pair of green in flight socks, & a toothbrush with a very tiny tube of toothpaste enough for 1 time. who knows maybe all airlines will start doing that now. maybe not all that other stuff but the toothbrushes & toothpaste though.

when coming back from dublin on friday i was SO disheartened as i had left my $25.00 stilla lip gloss in my bag....i was heartbroken i had to pitch it....so i left it in my bag.

but then i realized dublin doens't have the same rules!  you can still have cosmetics, but they were confiscating water.  but WTH!  i mean people can just connect through these cities and get on another fight at LHR!  rules like this need to be encompassed globally to really work.

*grumble*
