WW pedometer
« on: September 13, 2006, 12:21:11 PM »
Does anyone have a Weight Watchers pedometer (aka 'Bonus Buddy')? I just bought one yesterday and am having trouble setting it. I've entered my weight, measured my stride and entered that, etc. Now when I test it and walk for 25 steps, it keeps saying I've only done 2. What's wrong??

I don't have the WW one, but with other ones I've tried sometimes you have to be a bit picky about adjusting where you're wearing it so it picks up your strides.  Maybe moving it to a different position?

I hadn't thought of that! I just clipped it to the waistband of my trousers. Maybe I'll try somewhere else ... but where??

I hardly ever wear socks! LOL! I'm not sure where my pedometer can go if not at my waistband. Even then, I don't wear trousers all that often. I'm more of a dress person. Oy.

I bought a really expensive one a few months back - it talks to you - little wierd, but never mind.....

I *clocked* two miles on the car down a lovely country lane - got out the MBT's ( http://www.mbt-uk.com/ ), clipped on the pedometer, plugged up the ears with the headphones and away I went.

Got back and the darn thing only registered 1.2 miles....phooey on that - it should have said 4!!!

Retired the pedometer back to the kitchen drawer....use my GPS now ;)

I guess I can console myself with the fact that mine didn't cost very much. But still.... you do sort of expect it to work, don't you?? Grrrr...

I'll take it to my WW meeting next week and let the group leader sort it out.

Mine is a Silva and it's fantastic.  As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm a little OCD and count my steps most of the time.....and the Silva is always right in line with my calculations!   ;D

If I can't get a good result from my WW leader, I might get one of those, Lola. The thing I like about the WW one (if it worked, that is!) is that it converts steps to points -- and beeps when you've accumulated enough steps to make up another point.

That's wicked!  Perhaps try to set it higher than your actual gait?

I did that with my pedometer and it got close to accurate.  Still it's easier for me to use my GPS - plus the GPS doesn't talk to me - thought that would be a cool option when I got it....lol

I thought of doing that, too, but it just doesn't work. I keep getting really inconsistent readings. I set my gait at 6 inches, and it says 4 steps (rather than 25). Then I set my gait at 80 inches and it says 5 steps. Oy. I think either mine is faulty or else the product is plain crap.

6 inches seems really low - mine was set to 21 and it worked nearly perfectly.

My instructions said to measure from the toe of the front foot to the heal of the back foot after you've taken a step.  Heck my foot is longer than 6 inches. :)

Oh, I know! I just mean that after the regular old 20.5 inches didn't work, I started playing around and entering silly numbers just to see what would happen. Not much difference, it seems.

I just have a 'regular' pedometer, but I remember the instructions clearly stating to make sure it's placed as close to your hip joint as possible, so it can sense the steps (still on the waistband, but maybe in a slightly different place?).

I hang mine on the pocket of my jeans, right over my hip.  It has a mile counter, and when I checked it against the treadmill it was pretty close to dead on.
