We got our multi-region DVD player from them a month or 2 ago and it was only £40 then, and it's been *brilliant*, no problems at all!

Kevin just ordered one and as he is on his way here (YAY)  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] he is going to take back a couple of my DVDs and see how they work in the UK on that particular DVD player. I will report back with the results!  :)

Ok, am going to seem very ignorant here, but does this thread mean that US DVD's don't work on normal UK DVD players?

Thank you.

It's not ignorant at all, one would think that a dvd is a dvd and that's it. But it's not so simple, no, they had to make things difficult. ::) There are dvd regions, the US is Region 1, the UK is Region 2, and I don't know the others offhand. Basically, if you don't have a multi-region dvd player, the other Regions won't play. It's a sort of lock, and I'd imagine it was to keep people from importing cheaper dvds. I've found that computer dvd players are usually region protected as well.

Hey - you can also play Region 4 DVD's on a multi-region DVD player.  Which opens you up to being able to buy DVD's from New Zealand!

Don't laugh - Series 1 of Father Ted for less than £15.00!

I ordered mine (the Yamada DVD 2500 Multi-region Capable DVD Player) last week from amazon, and got it yesterday- but I can't figure out how to change the region! I've been looking on the amazon site but can't find any directions. Can anyone help me? There didn't seem to be any information in the instruction book and I wasn't sucessful after playing with the remote.

Just to update you- I printed out and followed the directions for the multi-region DVD player (Yamada) on amazon.com and it worked great! I watched a region 1 (US) dvd on it last night. It's definitely worth the price- light and sleek, simple, and easy to use.

I bought this exact DVD player from Amazon a few weeks ago. It is a strange brand - Japanese I think, but works fine. It arrived a few days ago and we are VERY happy with it!  :D
