Shipping things from home
« on: October 02, 2006, 09:47:36 PM »
I think I've mentioned it before but my parents have requested that I get my things, which have been happily sitting in my parents house for the last 4 years, out of their hair and into the UK.

Most of my belongings at home are books and I simply cannot afford to ship 10 medium sized boxes of books so I will most likely ebay those (anyone want to buy a box of random books?)

The rest of stuff is things like dishes, linens, photo albums, my wedding dress etc etc.

I reckon I'll have about 6 or so medium sized boxes of things to send over. I have no idea about the weight, though. The dishes will be the heaviest. I can send the few books (yearbooks) over by M bag but I wanted to know if it'd be easier and cheaper to send the stuff via a shipping company or posting it.

I don't need this stuff straightaway and I'm happy to have it on the slow boat. I just want to do it as cheaply as I can.

Any advice? I look at these international shippers and my head begins to hurt.

Honestly, the best idea is probably to bring it back with you when you come home from a visit.

I got quotes from various places (from regular mail to international shippers) and it was a LOT cheaper just to pay the extra baggage money.  I did have heavy boxes though, so it worked out well.

Yeah, I'd rather do that but unfortunatley I've been told to get my stuff out now and the next time I'll be in America won't be until December 2007.
