Computers and DVDs and CDs..
« on: October 03, 2006, 04:57:40 PM »
My old-ish Korean PC plays all DVDs and CDs.  Do all computers do this?

Just wondering why people ask about region-free DVD players if their computer could do the job.  Or why I even bothered buying a DVD player... when I should have just bought a cable to connect to the TV.

I don't know about other software, but the program that my computer has for DVDs is region 1 and could only be switched 3 times before that change would be perm.  :-\\\\

My computer doesn't ask any questions, just starts playing.  I must have played different region DVDs more than 3 times by now...

Will test this out some more!

(It's plain weird that I forgot about the computer DVD player and bought a new machine, though..)

I forgot about mine as well, and thought I had it sorted till I read the warning. Ah well.  :-\\\\

No.  Not all systems have a drive which will read DVDs, and then there's the software and regional coding issue, plus NTSC vs. PAL.    That before you get to the issue of having a processor/video sub-system which is fast enough to handle the images at a rate which is quick enough to give reasonable quality.
