Roller Derby in the UK - Birmingham & London
« on: October 24, 2006, 11:45:21 AM »
Hi everybody!

I'm an expat - originally from Colorado - been living in the UK for 8 years now! After the inital settlement period, which was rough, I am settled in here and love it. So hang in there if you are feeling down - it does get better!

I've been able to bring some creature comforts of home here to make it all the more pleasurable. One of these things is Roller Derby!

I always loved skating and used to be apart of a league in the states.

I've started up a league here - based in Birmingham - there is also a sister league in London - The Capital City Rebel Rollers.

So if you are interested in getting involved - we've got a few Americans skating with us - a great bunch of girls and it's opened up a whole new world for me as far as belonging to something - and opening a whole world of friendships here for me.

So get your skates on and join us!

Capital City Rebel Rollers meet in London - practice at the weekends - I believe they are planning to meet this Saturday @ Sobel in London - email me for details.

Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames in Birmingham - there's a information session scheduled for this weekend @ Canon Hill Park at 11am - this will be followed by a social skate around the lake. If it's raining - then we will meet at the NIA Community Hall. No skating, but a chance to view a potential practice space.

So if you are interested, email me: info@rollerderbyuk.com

The web address is newcomer link: http://www.rollerderbyuk.com [nonactive]

Cheers!

Bee

ah! Wish I was closer to either, but it's too far to go for practices. (Plus I'd fall on my face :P ) A friend of mine is on the New Jersey Bridge and Pummel team, and it sounds awesome. :D

Wow, it's a small world. A classmate of mine is in your league.

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

Just wanted to let you know that our league is now competing in Birmingham - also the London league is competing and we're competing against each other in December!

So if you are interested in getting involved - we provide full training - you'll go through basic skills and work your way up to competition level - normally takes anywhere from 3-6 months depending on how you advance.

It's a great way to get fit and meet new people - oh yeah - and be a rock star on skates!

There's no upper age limit... but we only train women 18+.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

No, but I know them really well! I live in Birmingham and started the league out here. But contact them if they are your local league - great bunch of girls! Also we'll be competing against them really soon - so it's worth coming out to check out a bout! Dates will be confirmed and available from our website

Yikes...

I thought it would be okay to spread it around a bit as not everyone who may be interested would be interested in looking in sport - as it's a community based organisation - and it's also a hobby for some.

Capital City Rollers are no longer I'm afraid - check the www.rollerderbyuk.com [nofollow] for the latest league info.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Leagues across the UK are recruiting girls to skate and men to help with officiation of our competitive bouts - we provide full training - so if you loved to skate when you were younger - and fancy a great way to get fit, meet people, and be a rock star on eight wheels... also you can let your inner-psycho out - and avoid sinking into mundania... !

Recruitment Critiera:

18+ women to skate
16+ males for officiating / annoucers / waterboys / jeerleaders

*must have great attitude
*be able to work as a team
*willing to help out with running the league
*participate in league events
*attend at least one practice per week

Also seeking: Volunteers of any age for video / photography / bands / djs / massage therapists

Every league is different - but generally the above applies.

For the league closest to you check out:

Hey! This is Dr Feral from the London Rollergirls!

We're having a bout this Saturday (19 Jan) in London so if anyone wants to come and see the excitement or even check it out to possibly get involved please come! More information and tickets are available on www.londonrollergirls.com.

We have a lot of American members and it's a great way to meet people in London as well as fun! If you can't make the bout, drop us a line if you're interested in coming to check out a practice some time.

Hey, teammate (Dr Feral)!!  I didn't know you read these boards, too!

Yeah, we (the London Rollergirls) have a number of American expats, but that's always a good thing!  The more expats in your league, the more times a league-mate visits the US and can bring you back US goodies like Sour Patch Kids!!  ;)

hey there  ladies

I can vouch for the LRG it's fun to have a go and there's many americans on the team. Everyone is friendly and you can even vent your frustrations over lack of mixer taps at practice ;)
