Durkee's French Fried Onions
« on: November 20, 2006, 02:49:03 PM »
Having spent Thanksgivings in Omaho and Pittsburgh, I really want to make classic mid western Green Bean Casserole.  Anyone ever found Durkee's French Fried Onions or a suitable alternative, ideally in London?

Thanks
Andrew

Not familiar with Durkees but I have seen both canned and dried fried onions at Sainsburys. I think the canned brand name is Eazy or something like that.

sah10406, look on the shelf where the salad dressings are. That's where I always see them.

I found some as Chary said, in the salad dressing's aisle at Sainsbury's. Sorry, I can't remember the brand! I'm not sure it's really mid western...we always had it in Pennsylvania! It's my favorite!  ;D

Fantastic.  I am British, and have honestly never noticed them in the supermarket here.  Appreciate your help and will investigate.

I am also making Ambrosia Salad!

And honestly, the ones here taste exactly the same.  I don't think there's much variance in the method to make french-fried onions ;).

I am just back from the store after buying 4 of them lol, glad someone else posted the picture, saves me going to the cupboard to pull them out. I had a bit of panic when I couldn't find them and they are the sort of thing that no one who works at the shop seems to know what they are. They were pushed back behind the salad dressings. All going well, we have enough for tomorrow and for Xmas.
