Can you use print outs from online bank accounts for visa?
« on: November 24, 2006, 04:25:47 PM »
Just a quick question. My fiancee has an online bank account and doesn't receive paper statements. Is it ok to use print outs of his bank statement for fiancee visa?
Anyone else used printouts?

I used an online banking statement but went into my local branch just so they could put they're nice little official stamp on it.
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Yes, but you need to print an online statement, not just the account view.  The online statement should be exactly the same as the statements they'd send you in the mail.  I did that with my ING Direct accounts.

I was actually told by the guy doing my visa that print outs of statements are not acceptable unless they were stamped by the bank (which defeats the purpose of printing them out yourself if you still have to go into the bank to have them verified). He wouldn't even look at my print outs and so relied on our payslips to prove income. This was back when I was applying for FLR which was a couple of years ago so things may have changed. When I went in for ILR I took "official" statements that I'd ordered from the bank....

Just a vent on this subject:

My company stopped producing hard copies of payslips - they deposit your pay into your bank account and you can view your payslip on the company intranet - so I emailed the Home Office and asked if printouts of online payslips are acceptable as proof of income, and they said no

So I explained my situation to HR and I they have made a special exception for me and I am still getting hard copies of payslips in the mail till I get my ILR.

My vent is that - with the trend toward using less paper and doing everything online - the Home Office should really keep up with the times. Nowadays, getting your bank statement online is the norm, not the exception.

i am collecting items of mail, in anticipation of a possible Unmarried P visa next oct.  our gas/electric bill is paperless, BT is online, my two credit cards are online view, etc... it really make life difficult.  it's annoying but i've reverted to paper statements for all of them for the next year or so...

I printed out my US bank account statements, (not that account summary but the actual statements with all the proper data on them) and the ECO didn't even bat an eye.  I do know the account summary print outs are not acceptable, but all things are a bit of pain in an electronic world these days.

Sometimes they accept them, sometimes they don't....

They are directed to if you can prove that they are the only kind available, but, as ever, some ECO's seem to be unaware of this.

Have him go to his bank and have the bank print out statements and stamp them.

Those should be acceptable.
