Service Apartments or Hotel or Bed & Breakfast??
« on: December 28, 2006, 11:03:35 AM »
Hi there.

I am moving to London in Feb and though my company is giving me 2 weeks housing allowances, I've got to look for it myself.
I'm not that keen to spend 2 weeks in a hotel (pretty depressing I think) and was wondering if any of you can share the experiences you have had with any service apartments or B&Bs in London? Budget wise, I suppose not more than 1,000 pounds a week for a studio?

I'm also looking for a permanent place to stay and am thinking of locating in areas like Docklands / Canary Wharf or North Greenwich. I've seen in some threads that Docklands and Canary Wharf is like a dead town come weekends, but does anyone know what North Greenwich is like?

Thanks and appreciate all your comments!

Canary Wharf is okay, but a bit industrial & unfriendly in my opinion.  My boyfriend lives in Bermondsey (actually he's an estate agent if you're interested, haha), which seems like a good area if you know what parts to stay away from.  Surrey Quays is also nice, and those both have the benefit of still being in Zone 2 (saves travel expenses).  SQ is nearer the river, so a bit pricier & you have a giant shopping center very close by.  Greenwich is a lovely area, but obviously further out.  It's a fairly active area, so you can usually find something to do.

Yes, I've heard Surrey Quays is quite a nice area, though it's probably not as convenient for me to travel to work. Nevertheless, it's definitely an area I'll check out.
Thanks!
