Officially applying to study in London
« on: January 11, 2007, 12:55:10 AM »
So after lurking around many websites and finally getting up the courage to contact ASU, I have finally started the official process of applying to study abroad.

It feels weird as I have done nothing but talk about it so far, so it never felt like it would really happen or could even possibly happen.

Because I am attending a local community college (just for general studies), I must transfer to ASU (Arizona State Uni) for fall 2007 so that I can apply for the study abroad program by March 1st. That means I have about a month and a half to get accepted to both ASU and the SA program I have chosen.

I have a meeting with my SA adviser next week on Tuesday, which is also the first day of classes which I just remembered as I'm typing this. Oi...

I'll keep everyone updated. I don't know whether it's a good thing or a scary thing, but I was told that I will know a within a week of March 1st if my application was accepted or denied.

good luck !
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

Wow, sorry it took so long to reply here. I've been really busy with classes starting back up again (I already had to drop one as I was so busy!) and trying to fill out my study abroad app.

I'm applying to study for fall 2007 and spring of 2008, so I'll be in London for an academic year if I am accepted. There's so much to do right now and I'm currently stressing out over my ASU application (which is still waiting on transcripts from a previous college to be processed so that I can be processed for approval/denial and I sent the blasted things 11 business days ago!) and how I'm going to get 2 academic recommendations from my field of study when I have only taken two classes in my field of study, both from the same teacher!

It's all just overwhelming me right now. My meeting with the adviser that I mentioned in my OP went really badly in that he spent the entire meeting trying to convince me that I didn't want to go to London because it's expensive. Well DUH! ALL study abroads in London are! I honestly think he was trying to get me to do a program through the school (as exchange) instead of through a third party (which is classified as "study abroad" and not "exchange"). It's only a difference of about $9,000, which I know is a lot, but no other options I have found are offering what I want to study, plus the arts community like London has. It's worth it to me to pay more to get the experience I really want, rather than end up in Leicester studying something I could have taken in Arizona and paid way less for.

Blah. Not enough time!  [smiley=bigcry.gif]

OMGOMGOMG!

I turned in my app this after noon! I'm so anxious to find out!!

The adviser asked me to confirm that my GPA was right and said it was "stellar"! Then he said I was so well organized and thanked me for being so thorough with reading everything in the app. Apparently most people don't read the part that says you need 2 letters of recommendation, etc.

Anyway, I have to wait around a week from March 1 to find out!

Cross your fingers for me!!

All the best of luck to you!  What area of art are you interrested in or what is it that you're wanting to study?  Don't forget to visit other areas of the UK while you're over.  There's way more to the country (north of Watford)!   ;)

I love art history, and I am specifically interested in the conservation of art. UCL has some classes on that, and there are really not too many schools in the US (actually I can't even think of one) that teach art conservation at the BA level. I'm hoping that this will help me later when I go on to grad school.

And yes, I definitely want to get some travelling in if I am chosen! I'm very excited and I can't wait to hear back! Thanks for the well wishes!!

Not redundant at all! I bid you good luck, too! Seems as though we're both waiting in agony to hear how our next year will be. I thought the looming deadline was bad... getting everything together, making sure I had not forgotten something... waiting is the absolute worst part.
