Found decent pickles!
« on: January 23, 2007, 07:41:21 PM »
I have to say, I've been trying different pickles for months. It was one thing my Son and I missed terribly.  Not living near London, didn't have all the specialty shops to go look in.  And Del Dixie pickles from the south part of the US are the best.

BUT... the other day I found a jar of pickles with no sugar added and they are very close to the taste of a Vlasic.  Not perfect, but very close.

They are Mrs Elswood Haimisha Cucumbers, Pickled.  I found them at Tesco near the ketchup and sauces.  On the label, it says empirefoodbrokers.com

So if you need a decent pickle, try these.

Browneyedgirl, are you able to post a photo of the label? The only Mrs Haimisha pickles we've seen had sugar. We did try them but they were quite sweet.

I tried them and I must admit I miss Claussens too.  Those are too mustardy for me.  Sadly, there was a pickle vendor at the farmer's market near my parent's.  I miss those most of all.

These are the ones everyone's on about. I think they're fantastic and as good as most any I've had in the US. Claussen and some of Vlasic's are garlicy. These are more of the vinegary ones but I love them

Haunted, where in Derry do you get those?  Any chance they're in Tescos?

This is the jar BUT the kind I have don't say Sweet Sour Cucumbers.  It says Haimisha Cucumbers.

The red line under that says Pickled.

I may try these as well.

Hmmm just checked and mine say pickled but I know I've had both and been pleased.

Yankeeangel yes these are in Tescos. They are in the aisle with the mayonnaise on the bottom shelf. Not sure where in Lisnegelvin but that's where they are in the strand. I just saw them tonight so they're in stock. Very yummy

Found the Haimisha ones at Tesco last night. Not bad! Thanks for the tip. :)

Oh that is brillant!!!!! Decent pickles. I gave up hope of finding them here. Just in time for my pregnant lady cravings.  :P I wonder if you can get them in Belfast. if not, will have to find Quayside to time I go to our office in Derry. Will you Derry ladies please help me out with my geography? I know the Matalan coming into the city, the craigavon bridge, bus station, city centre, bogside and waterside. Thanks

Have you tried Sainsburys? I think I remember seeing that brand there a few years ago (as you know I don't get to that side of town often!), it might have been the sugared ones tho. I don't think I bought them then because by that point I was burnt out being burned by bad pickles.
