Moving to Newcastle - Any Advice.
« on: February 18, 2004, 09:00:31 PM »
I know... I know... Bring a jacket!

My family and I are going to be moving to Newcastle (work related)... We currently live in Dallas (via San Francisco)
and although we're really excited about, we really don't know what to expect.

I've spent a considerable amount of time on-line researching all the different tgings I need to know.  Still really can't get a feel for the day to day quality of life.

Thanks to all for your kind advice.

Well, you've come to the right place!  :)

Explaining what life is really like here would take a lot more space on this board than even I am willing to hog.  But if you hang out here and chat with a few of the members who've been here and done that, you'll pick up plenty of tips and insights.  :)

Good luck with your big move!   8)

Great advice, Wish. Reading the posts here is just like joinining in on a very long conversation about everyday life. Be forewarned though. People tend to post more when problems arise, so bear this in mind. For me, my everyday life here doesn't have me questioning my decision to move here at all.

I just arrived in October from Houston.  I can't say that I ever regret moving here, but it is different.  It's more of a small town life than Houston or Dallas - which is either good or bad depending.  The weather is probably just as cool as Dallas in the winter, but not as hot in the summer.  It is beautiful here though - green grass, beautiful parks and walkways, beautiful old buildings.  The city centre is small enough to walk everywhere and then a short walk down to the riverside.  There are plenty of pubs everywhere and little private owned restaurants.  If you have any specific questions about the area I'll be more than happy to help you out.  Good luck with your move!!

Oh my Gawd!...  I am getting more neighbors...how exciting!  first there was no one in or near newcastle...now there are 5 including myself...

I am above newcastle... and yes...definitely bring a coat... lol.. a few in fact...  but like intoon stated, it is beautiful up here...green grass and rolling hills and plenty to do for a social life...as long as you have a car (when living away from the city like myself.)

Welcome to all the new northeaster's

ooh!  We're moving to Newcastle next weekend! (We're currently in Middlesbrough).

I DO know that you're going to need to clean your ears out before you come.  It's impossible to understand the Geordie accent (and all other northern accents, IMHO).  I told my husband the other day that I wish I'd married a posh London boy--then I'd be able to understand him when he speaks!  ;-)
