Congestion Charge doubling on Monday 19th?
« on: February 16, 2007, 12:42:26 PM »
Hiya

I've just come across this article on Yahoo news and miffed that the charge is doubling?!

Is this 100% definite?

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/16022007/325/london-congestion-charge-zone-double.html

they've increased from the charge from the original £5 to £8 now it sounds it'll be around the £16 mark, extension of the zone, in another 2-4 years maybe all of london will be chargeable to drive into, and other towns and cities and pay as you go road charging all over the country...

this is beyond insane and ridiculous - I wouldn't mind as much if public transport was even 25% better than the shambles it is currently...

20 years time there's going to be a 'walking' charge...

Yes it is insane! There is a proposal in Reading as well to start charging. UNTIL public transport is sorted out (overcrowded, delays and the outrageous train costs for passengers  :o) how can they propose these things? Why should the average person pay for the government's mistake of not planning or trying to rectify the situation? Slap a fee on it...yeah that makes sense?

As for the walking charge...oh yeah, if Brown becomes the next PM (looks that way but hope not) we will have walking charges and probably other charges that we can't even possibly comprehend.

Just another item to add to the already long list of reasons to avoid London whenever possible.

There's also something in the offing about no resident discount for vehicles in the higher excise bands as well.

Good old "Red Ken" strikes again.

Well, we all produce carbon dioxide.  He'll probably want to tax us based upon lung capacity or something.......    :P

Seems to only be a doubling of the physical area of the zone - not an increase of price (yet?) - although that article seemed to imply maybe the charge going up to around £16!

Zone is quite largely extended! - I usually get into London either via the M4 or A40, will have to make sure I get my timings right in the evenings now to avoid the charge!

You can pay the Congestion Charge beforehand, on the day of travel or the following charging day.
The charge is £8 if you pay by midnight on the day of travel or £10 if you pay by
midnight the following charging day
If you do not pay the Congestion Charge we will send a Penalty Charge Notice of £100
to the registered keeper of the vehicle. As with parking penalties, this is reduced to
£50 if paid within 14 days.

The Fast Track Card is designed to make it quicker and easier to pay the congestion charge. It does this by storing your details, including your vehicle registration number(s), all protected by a PIN number that you choose. It does not contain any financial information.  Online

..
If you register with us, we’ll send you a FAST TRACK CARD so you won’t have to remember and repeat your details every time you pay, which will speed things up.

This is wast of time to keep calling everyday..
Why they dont create  Something like NEW JERSEY EZ Pass..?

Yes, it is just the physical area that was doubled to now include the west of London. A few other big cities in England are considering proposals to incorporate congestion charges.

I was starting to wonder about you Dennis, starting propaganda again (after the BA checked luggage post) that fees were increasing two fold!!  ;)

haha! Olive Oyl!

I havent got time to try and start propaganda ! much better things to do than that!

I wish I could post up links to such headlines as 'council tax lowered to match cost of living' or 'fuel duty lowered to match other G8 countries' or 'value for money seen to be increasing in the UK'

then suddenly 'pop' goes that bubble! and we all have to do something about it! ;)

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!
