Given the choice and current possibility, I wish we lived in the States. My old friendships there seem to be dust in the wind since I've been away so long, and I have nothing but internet friends now. At least I go on walks with my mother-in-law, but that won't last for much longer because we're going to move three hours away so my husband can complete a university education/finish his degree. So I'm sorry to say that I would do anything to be in the States now, if it were possible.

I was born and raised in the UK, came to CA in 1991 stayed for 13yrs, moved back to the UK in 04 and hated every minute of it, everything last thing is a chore there, from parking your car, getting someone to help you with whatever, lousy weather, I could go on, don't even start me on the NHS. We quickly sold up and moved back to CA in June of 06 and couldn't be happier. Having said all of that, I do miss certain things about the UK, family, butcher shops, Jonathan Ross, that's it.

Dh is now obssessed with moving to the US (he's the brit in the marriage) and I am a little unsure. I want to move back, but I didn't think it would be so soon. He is looking at job prospects and it's promising, but now I am looking at jobs just in case he doesn't get one. How many of you moved with kids? without? we don't have any, but next year was supposed to be the year we try and start, but now it might be delayed b/c DH is now obssessed with this idea that we should move to the US without kids b/c it will be easier. I think it's difficult either way, pregnant, not, or with a baby. Any stories would be great!

Maybe it's just me, but he seems to come up with a lot of reasons not to have kids . . .

If we do it, it'll be next summer/autumn and we'll have the one kid (maybe another???!!! if we're insane enough) plus 3 cats... and a partridge in a pear tree! I'm dreading the logistics of it all, but we have lots of friends and family on the other side to help out. My take on it is you just do what you gotta do - but I'll keep you posted if I go insane in the process!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

At best, I feel I've tolerated England. I haven't been happy here since the beginning, but then again, I thought we'd be moving sooner. I miss living with happy, talking people, and to be honest, I miss living in the world's only superpower. I miss my family more than I could say, and we're so skint I don't know what we're going to do when my parents die (my dad is 80 and has had heart bypass surgery twice, and my mom has Alzheimer's disease). You should consider how old and healthy your parents are before you move here.

We moved with a baby.  It was no extra hassle at all.  Maybe extra stuff, but that was it. :)

I couldn't even IMAGINE never living on U.S. soil again. The thought of that is unbearably depressing (honestly, I know what I'm talking about).

For some of us, however, the reverse is true.

Yes and for some of us, we are caught between the two.  :(

Bummer! :\\\'(

Seriously, though, horses for courses.

If people are happy in their heart of hearts with where they are, that's a great blessing no matter where that place may be.

Very true Ex-pat. My issue is I want the best of both! Of course that isn't really doable. I guess I said what I did because we are leaving soon and I know that I will miss so much about this country.  ;)
