Standard Price of UK Accountant
« on: March 13, 2007, 08:39:14 AM »
i will most likely have to do self-assessment for 2006-2007 tax year.  i did not/will not have any foreign remittances for this tax year so pretty straight forward situation.  can i fill out the SA forms at the inland revenue website?  (using my P60 & P11D & bank interest statements)

if it's too complicated- i'm being quoted approximately £200 for a UK accountant to do this.  I'm also being quoted £160/hour for their partner to handle any more complicated affairs (cleaning my UK capital b/f moves to the US, etc...)

If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

That's a good price.  You'd have to look long and hard to find cheaper and still able to handle your case (i.e., international issues like cleaning capital) cheaper.

Don't forget, it's deductable on your US return.

The first year I was here in the UK, I had someone do my UK taxes, it cost £200.  It was a very simple return and I waited until the last minute, so it was a rush job.

Meggles give it a try yourself, I did it last year and it was very easy.  So different from the US system.

thanks for your vote of confidence karin & advice lizzit.

i think i'll "give it a go" on the SA inland revenue website for 2006-2007 (no foreign currency remitted) if i can't figure it out... i still have time to give them to my accountant (by oct 07) for him & his team to do.

i think i'll consult him to deal with "cleaning" my currency.  just found out something I thought was capital dispursements is in fact income dispursements.  could be a problem bringing it to the UK.  great.
