Good vacuum for 50 quid or less?
« on: March 26, 2007, 01:45:43 PM »
I wasn't sure where to post this, so I hope this is the right spot:

Our vac we brought from the U.S. doesn't get any suction here (perhaps the different poer supply). Now we'd like to find a new, inexpensive vacuum that is good for both laminate flooring and carpeting. I've read that cylindar vacs are supposed to be good for both, but many reviewers have said that they really don't work well on carpet (in addition to being harder on your back to use).

Anyone know if I will be better off getting a cylindar vac or an upright? And any suggestions about brands or kinds or where to buy? Thanks for any ideas!

I'm no expert but we have a Panasonic bagless, I think we paid about £50-£60 for it and it works well on our laminate floors, lino & carpet.  The brush has a thing you can flick on/off depending if you are on hard floor or carpet.  It's quite small so if you have stairs to vacuum it's good for that too.

Personally, I use the £17.64 one I got from Tesco. They make a bagless version for £24.00 as well. I use it on both laminate and carpet floors. It works better than anything I've ever had. I don't see the need to spend more than that either.

I bought a used upright Dyson on ebay for £52 from a seller that reconditions and resells them.   It is disgusting how much I love that vacuum and how often I vacuum now.  I know there are one (or more) Dyson models that will work on carpet and other surfaces.

I got an old Dyson from eBay for about £30 and it's wonderful. When we moved from a previous flat, the electric went out and I forgot I turned it on. I just left it there and when I came home the next day it was still on. It vacuumed the same spot all day and night as still works well.
