Is this correct? Never eating Chipotle again!!
« on: April 06, 2007, 07:53:30 PM »
I just got a Chipotle burrito today for lunch, thinking I would eat half of it, but of course I chowed down the whole thing.

All I added was: Rice, black beans, lettuce, mild salsa, cheese, sour cream, and guac.

Chipotlefan.com has a nutrition calculator where you can input your choices and it estimates your nutritional facts.

Here were the results for my burrito:

Yup, that is right!

You can do the same thing at home with fat free sour cream, reduced fat cheese, black beans, whole grain rice, whole grain tortilla, salsa, and guac (has good fats).

I do it all the time since there are an Chiptole's around here and I must admit, I prefer it my way.   :D

Yeah, I saw an article about 'surprisingly unhealthy foods' recently and Chipotle was listed. I was a slightly surprised that the fat/calories were almost on par with a meal from BK or McDonald's. Luckily I only discovered Chipotle right before I moved over here, before I could do too much damage!

That's what's so scary about it. Chipotle gives the impression that with their "fresh" food, it's better for you than a #1 at McD's. I'm on the go so much that I would say 90% of the time I eat out of my house. I try to make myself lunches, but sometimes I'm too tired and go to bed, wake up late, then end up fast-fooding it all day long. I thought I would be "good" today and get Chipotle (even though it often upsets my stomach so I rarely eat it) and now I feel like I ate a brick  [smiley=dead.gif]

Try making what I mentioned at home.  It cuts everything down by more than 3/4 of what Chiptole's has.  I know you mentioned that you are really busy, but, it is really easy to do and you won't feel like you ate a brick afterwards.  A smaller portion will fill you up sooner and leave you satisfied sooner.  I will make a big container of whole grain rice on a Sunday and it is more than enough for several different types of meals during the week.  I used to do the same thing as you with the eating on the run thing, but, I finally just had to stop (for one thing, it was waaaay too expensive in the long run) and I just felt gross all of the time.  Ahhh, the life of a college student....

My daughter and her friends go there all the time.  She's tiny and can use the calories but for some reason I've never tried it.  Now I will definitely stay away.   [smiley=lipsrsealed2.gif]

If you're adding cheese, sour cream and guacamole to anything, you really shouldn't be surprised at the calories or fat content! As much as I enjoy all three of those things, I'm steering clear of them while trying to lose weight. They're deadly!  ;D

Yeah, that's definitely true, but the burrito in the article didn't even include the sour cream and guac, I guess that is why I was (only slightly) surprised. Also, I used get the burrito bowl (no tortilla...just the ingredients over lettuce) and even that wasn't so good. Oh well. It is fast food, at the end of the day, so no big shock.

LOL..what did you expect?  The burritos are HUGE!

There are a lot of calories in the shell, but the rice has oil in it as well.

I love eating there and usually would get the burrito bowl (no shell), but its still high calories because of the oily rice.

I knew I should never have read this thread.  YUMMM!!!!

Reminds me of Anna's Taqueria in Porter Square (Cambridge, MA)  Can't help but get the super size burrito with Sour Cream and Guacamole.  I got one at least once a week when I lived there.

Where is this Chipotle anyway?

Chipotle is a chain (owned by McDonald's) and I think they are nationwide. I did like their burritos, but they were massive!!

I've never heard of them! Are they regional? Or just too new for me to have seen them?
